Leadership Meets with Premier Milling Corporation - Discuss Community Initiatives
A Team of Community Leaders headed by Chair Lady Mrs. Cecelia Borbordee Nyumah had a fruitful meeting with the Management of Premier Milling Corporation (known as Flour Factory) situated in the Day Break Mouth Open Community, Block-C.
Among key issues discussed were:
The road leading from Day Break Mouth Open Junction to the flour factory (both short and long term). We were assured by the Management, represented by Mr. Alfred Ouko, that road maintenance would begin before the raining season.
The issue of their generator sound at night and the pollution of its smoke was highlighted. According to the Manager, they have been engaged with The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) for months now, fortunately they recently get connected to the power grid. "As you can all see, we currently have power and there's no sound of a generator" he said.
Concerning employment, we were told by the Manager that they are not into employment yet. They are only currently doing daily hire. The Manager said the company is facing some financial situation and constrain which can not allow them to carry on employment. He even mentioned that they had to layoff forty (40) of their employees due to the situation. However, he promised to notify the Chair Lady whenever the need for additional work force (daily hiring) arises.
Furthermore, the Manager clarify that they presently have thirty-four (34) persons from the community and some surrounding communities who are working at the factory. He asked that the Leadership do a detail plan (project), including scholarships for less privilege children who are unable to be in school because of financial difficulties. He went on to express his willingness to work with the present Leadership.
Mrs. Cecelia Borbordee Nyumah in her closing statement asked that the portion of land behind the factory be use for recreation (sports) activities. She thanks the Manager for his warm reception and that she looks forward to a cordial working relationship.
